Where the path from Bentley Station towards Alice
Holt Lodge (Now the Research Station) reaches the top of the hill there
was once a subsidiary hunting lodge, marked on old maps of the Royal
Forest. This was once where the hounds were kept for the chase. Although
there was a building there in living memory, the association with hunting
now survives only in the name of the pond.
